The operation of Janie the horse
Mission life helped the horse, Janie, by financing a complicated eye surgery.
We were approached by Adrian, whose financial situation didn’t allow him to pay for a complicated surgery in a foreign country.
We are very pleased that the operation had a positive outcome and we hope that Janie and Adrian are enjoying adventures together again.
“Janie is a beautiful, clever red-haired mare. At the age of 3, her fight with the most insidious disease had started – moon blindness. Her eye infections had been getting gradually worse and her overall health condition was looking very serious. The doctor helped us by looking up all the available prices, clinics and treatment options there are. Appropriate treatment was put in a place and a reservation was made for an operation in Brno. Her condition though got worse again and the operation wasn’t possible. The only way to help her was undergoing vitrectomy, which is available in Munich. Vitrectomy is a very expensive and difficult operation which comes with its risks. But it was the only way how to save Janie’s eyesight – the procedure doesn’t fully cure the eyesight, but it helps to conserve it the state it already is and this if the operation is successful, usually the rate for success is 80%. Luckily all ended up well, we managed to raise funds for this costly operation along with the help from Mission life. Janie, now sees with both of her eyes and is enjoying her life.”
