The celebration of St. Nicolas day in Hospital

Our civic association helped a group of high school seniors fulfill their desire to help and do a good deed.

Lara and her classmates joined the civic association Klub detskej nádeje (Children’s hope club) and Mission Life and participated in a beneficent event ‘Mikuláš v nemocnici 2018′ (St. Nicolas day in hospital 2018) as volunteers.

The students helped with packaging lovely Saint Nicolas day gift packages and joined St. Nicolas in distributing them to the children in the hospital wards of Kramáre Hospital.

The joy in the children´s faces was the best reward for everyone involved.

“Thanks Mission Life our class (12. Class of German Deutche Schule in Bratislava) had the opportunity to participate in the St Nicolas day celebrations organized by the civic association Klub detskej nádeje (Children´s hope club). First, we had to package a great deal of gifts from various companies into gift packages for the children. We included sweets, fruit, nuts, a little toy and a teddy bear into each gift package.

We all met the next day at the children’s ward in Kramáre hospital. We visited each hospital ward dressed as angels, devils, gnomes and other magical creatures. We carried the gift packages in large bags on our backs. We were greeted by bright eyes and smiling faces. We talked to the children, played with them, drew with them and blew bubbles with bubble blowers in the common rooms of the hospital. Many kids really enjoyed pulling the devil´s tail and stealing his trident. The climax of the day came when St Nicolas gave away gift packages to the children after they all insisted they were well behaved. We were accompanied by a choir singing Christmas carols making the atmosphere even more pleasant.

We were glad to be able to add some color to the children’s and their parent´s hospital stay with such a simple act. When the children ran towards us proudly showing us their drawings, asking for a photo with us or when they chased the bubbles, our joy was as big as theirs. It was such a touching experience and a beautiful reminder that Christmas is all about giving out joy and love to others.”
